Men of a Certain Age is a new show that’ll be premiering on the TNT network on December 7th at 10 pm, and it stars Ray Romano (who also co-created the show), Scott Bakula, and Andre Braugher. This new dramedy (part drama, part comedy) focuses on the lives of those three men who are best friends from college, and are all entering the second half of their lives. There are highs and lows to every age, but three best friends know what it’s like to be Men of a Certain Age.

“‘Men of a Certain Age’ is about the highs and lows of being a guy in the modern era,” said Michael Wright, senior vice president in charge of the content creation group for TNT and its sister networks, TBS and Turner Classic Movies. “It’s about three best friends, each hoping to fulfill his dreams before the clock starts running out. It’s an honest, emotional, funny and very personal take on the subject.”

The 3 Main Characters in Men of a Certain Age

Joe (Ray Romano), is a somewhat neurotic father of two teens who runs Joe’s Party Depot. He also gets along better with his partner now that they’re separated.

Terry (Scott Bakula), is a has-been actor who is seemingly at ease with his whatever happens work attitude.  He brushes off small-time work, deciding to draw the line between good work and a waste of time.

Owen (Andre Braugher), is a tired and stressed out husband praying that the home remodeling gets completed as well as trying to stay on par in the car sales business that his father owns. The tough part is the bitter emotion conveyed by his father who always praises his younger brother Marcus (Brian J. White).

I was lucky enough to be given an advanced fifteen minute preview of Men of a Certain Age, and to be completely honest with you, I really enjoyed this show. Don’t go into the show with the expectation of seeing Ray Ramano play the same character he played on Everyone Loves Raymond, this isn’t that type of show, as it is more of a drama than a straight out comedy. Having said that, the show did have plenty of genuine funny moments, and I was really digging what I watched. This show will appeal to any guy who is afraid of getting older, any guy who is currently going through a midlife crisis, but it’ll mostly appeal to guys who have already experienced a midlife crisis as they’ll be able to relate to the characters the most. All in all, it’s a very solid show, with three great actors, and I think it’ll be a big hit for TNT. Be sure to check it out when it premieres in December on TNT.
