General Dynamics RST-V Series-Hybrid Is One Green Bad Ass Military Vehicle
Cars, Main, Trucks — By DaveThe RST-V is a technology demonstrator built entirely by General Dynamics to show that a military sized vehicle, with military capabilities can be built using hybrid technologies. It’s powered by four electric in-wheel motors and a small diesel-engine powering a generator to charge on-board batteries.
From Jalopnik:
The wheels are assembled on a bearing riding on a stub axle , then on goes the 90 kW peak, 50 kW continuous pancake motor mount installed on the splined hub shaft, then on top of that a pancake gear reduction unit which interfaces with an eccentrically mounted geared track one the rim of the wheel.
The really cool thing about this green military vehicle is that it can export over 20 kW of power to a grid, and since it uses hybrid technology, it can roam around in foreign territory completely silent. The General Dynamics RST-V Series-Hybrid is capable of pumping out 482 horses.
